We were asked by Midland Metro Alliance to remove 14lm of 600mm chamfer section from a gunite arch supporting a bridge in Broad Street, Birmingham. This work was being carried out so that the bridge could be further strengthened to take the extra weight of the new Trams travelling over it. The method used was to core drill 48mm dia holes up to 600 mm deep track sawing 550mm deep and using hydraulic Darda splitter to bust the concrete away from the brickwork. The project was of a sensitive nature as the bridge had been constructed in the 18 century and it was important that none of the brickwork was cut into or disturbed in any way. We also had to provide full water control to ensure no slurry or rubble entered the canal. The project being completed safely and within program.
